rePLACE Process

In my initial meetings with the choreographer, she mentioned she’d like green costumes for the piece. After watching the choreography, I felt like there were themes of being stuck in a cycle and breaking out. Knowing these things, I initially came up with two approaches to costuming. Unfortunately, I can’t find the inspiration photos for the other option I pitched her that we didn’t go with. But the two approaches I pitched were 1) a nature inspired one where they almost resemble blooming flowers and 2) army green military-inspired costumes with hints of bright colors to show them breaking free. She liked the militant idea so we went with that. The costume pieces were all thrifted for the dancers.
